New Process Starch
Firmenich Mfg. Co. operated out of Peoria from 1886-1888 from the "foot of South St." According to a Google Books reference, Report of the United States Industrial Commission, U.S. Government Printing Office, v.13, 1901, Firmenich Manufacturing merged with other companies to form the Glucose Sugar Refining Company in August 1897: |

This building is now the home of Sazon, one of the best Puerto Rican restaurants anywhere. The restaurant at this time has two other locations. Here's the description from the Sazon web site:
"After nearly 3 successful years in Midtown Manhattan, owner of Sofrito, Angela Terranova decided it was time to expand and begin her search for a new location. Shortly thereafter, Sazón was born. An exciting and unique addition to Manhattan's downtown scene. Sazón brings authentic Puerto Rican cuisine to the heart of Tribeca. This dual-level establishment encompasses all the vibrancy and delectability of its sister location but adds a downtown flavor all its own. Open for lunch dinner and Sunday brunch: Sazón offers its patrons a variety of ways to experience Puerto Rican cuisine at its best. Buen Provecho!"Competition in the starch business was tough.
