The Bennett Tea House Collection

The Bennett Tea House
Collection

Located in Harlem "one door from 121st St." at 2225 Third Ave., the Bennett Tea House was for a time in the late 1800s the "Largest Establishment in its Line in New York." Offering the "Best Black, Mixed Japan or Eng. Teas," Bennett wanted you to know there was "no finer quality" and that they were putting all this up at "wholesale prices." Among other brews, they stocked Mandetralin Java and "Best Old Govt. Java."

My guess is that these were stock advertising trade cards later printed with the Bennett Tea House information on the back. Scrapbook glue has obscured much of the information on the back of the cards found so far, so we'll be on the lookout for more!
